About
Go out for an extraordinary underground adventure, descending 11 stories beneath the crowded streets of London to discover one of the city’s eight deep-level air raid shelters.
Accompanied by knowledgeable guides, get a deep understanding of the shelter’s rich history. Navigate through disused tunnels and winding passageways, each holding a unique chapter of Clapham South deep-level shelter’s story.
Opened to the public in the summer of 1944, the station stretches over a mile below the city’s surface. It echos with tales of wartime Londoners seeking refuge, Caribbean migrants stepping off the Empire Windrush full of hope, and frugal Festival of Britain attendees.
